2nd MEENAS webinar 2025
On February 18–19, 2025, a scientific workshop organized by MELODI (Multidisciplinary European Low Dose Initiative) was held in Rome, focusing on the effects of ionizing radiation on the central nervous system (CNS).
The MEENAS webinar on Wednesday, July 9, 16:00 CEST, aims to present the main outcomes and highlights from the workshop discussions, providing insight into MELODI’s perspective on the biological effects of low-dose radiation on the brain and identifying future research priorities.

European Radiation Protection Week (ERPW) 2024
European Radiation Protection Week (ERPW) is an annual, multidisciplinary event which, under the Consortium of European Radiation Research Platforms (MEENAS), brings together experts and addresses topics related to radiation protection.
The ERPW meeting series was initiated in 2016 in Oxford (UK) and is supported by key international organizations including, from the MEENAS Group: MELODI (Multidisciplinary European Low Dose Initiative), EURADOS (European Radiation Dosimetry Group), EURAMED (European Alliance for Medical Radiation Protection Research), NERIS (European Platform on Preparedness for Nuclear and Radiological Emergency Response and Recovery), ALLIANCE (European Radioecology Alliance), and SHARE (European Platform for Social Sciences and Humanities in Ionising Radiation Research).
ERPW 2024 is being organized by Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS), Rome, and by the Italian association of Radiation Protection (AIRP).
The conference aims to create a context for the presentation of scientific results aspiring to knowledge sharing and discussion of current and emerging issues related to radiation protection research, and to provide a space for the exchange of ideas and the establishment of collaborative links.
48th European Radiation Research Society Meeting
The 48th European Radiation Research Society Meeting (ERRS 2024) will be held in Aveiro, Portugal, from the 10th to the 13th of September, 2024. Together, at ERRS2024, we will collaborate and find innovative solutions that address both the present and future global challenges in radiation research and its impact on various fields.
PIANOFORTE Event: General Assembly Meeting
The PIANOFORTE Event was held in Budapest 5-6 December 2023. The first day was devoted to presentations of all work packages achievements these past months and with focus on the results of the PIANOFORTE first Open Call for R&I projects. In the second day, the projects chosen for funding in the PIANOFORTE first open call were presented.
International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) 2024 World Congress
The radioecology session that will be arranged is designed to exchange knowledge from long-term studies in Chernobyl and Fukushima about the dynamics of radioactive materials and radiation in forests, for all forest components (tree, soil, water, mushroom, wildlife, etc.). Furthermore, the feature of this session is that the focus is beyond the dynamism and more on the indirect impact on forest ecosystems and society.

The 11th General Assembly of ALLIANCE was held 9 October 2023 during the European Radiation Protection Week in Dublin, Ireland. Budget and Activities from the previous and upcoming period were presented, planned and discussed. The new members of the ALLIANCE Bureau were elected: Jelena Mrdakovic Popic (DSA, Norway) was elected as the Vice-President and Franck Dal-Molin (Cefas, UK) was elected as the Treasurer.

The 7th European Radiation Protection Week (ERPW) was successfully organized in Dublin, Ireland, 9-13 October 2023, under the Consortium of European Radiation Research Platforms (MEENAS Group). ALLIANCE participated with oral presentations in the plenary session and organized a session devoted to Radioecology and Environmental radioactivity (ALLIANCE session).

The aim of the 5th International Conference on Radioecology and Environmental Radioactivity was to review and discuss recent achievements in radioecology, environmental radioactivity and related disciplines, as well as to promote continued development in these subjects in order to improve the radiological protection of humans and the environment (https://www.icrer.org/). ALLIANCE marked 10th anniversary in the special session ‘Radioecology ALLIANCE 10 years’ while additionally ALLIANCE poster prizes were given to three young colleagues for the best posters presented at the conference.

The ALLIANCE organised the webinar the 2nd of June, 2022. The webinar aimed at gathering information, including insight experiences from regulators, scientists, producers of radiopharmaceuticals (RPs) and experts in the field of nuclear medicine, necessary to carry out dose assessments for members of the public and non-human-biota.

CONFIDENCE - ALLIANCE workshop
Workshop with a topic ‘Do Process-Based Models have a role in human food chain assessments’ was held in CIEMAT, Madrid, Spain, 9-11 September 2019.
Process-based models have existed for nearly two decades but are still rarely used in emergency planning. This workshop will bring together modellers, scientists and importantly end-users to discuss advances in Food-chain transfer with an emphasis on process-based soil-plant transfer models. One aim of the workshop will be to investigate the potential adoption of process-based models by end-users and also identify future research priorities for human food-chain modelling

Workshop: Epigenetic factors and long-term effects of ionising radiation on organisms
The overall aim of the meeting was to bring together scientists involved in epigenetic studies, in the field of ionising radiation, environmental risk assessment, ecology and ecotoxicology, and to also have representation from regulators. Information and more details can be found in report.
COMET workshop-Thirty years after the Chernobyl accident what do we know about the effects of radiation on the environment?
The workshop was focused on what we have learnt from studies of the effects of radiation on the environment in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone (CEZ) and what questions still remain. It will included presentations giving an overview of results from those groups which have studied the environment with the CEZ and also those currently working there. An evaluation of studies conducted in Japan following the Fukushima accident was also be given. There were a number of discussion sessions on topics such as How do we resolve the anomalies between field and laboratory studies?, Implications of Chernobyl (and Fukushima) studies for current benchmark dose rates; What next for field studies in Chernobyl?, Each of these sessions will have one or two introductory presentations to set the scene for subsequent discussions. COMET Workshop on Radioecological Modelling: Models fit for purpose
The objective of the workshop was to discuss modelling as fit for purpose, by organizing a dialogue and obtaining feedback from modellers, experimentalists and stakeholders on this subject. Questions addressed at the workshop were: What is the purpose of the models? Why do we need radioecology models? How should an ideal radiological model look like? How is the interactions between the modellers and the experimentalist? What is the model/data requirements? The discussions held during the workshop are compliled in COMET deliverable D-N 5.5.
